E-file.com is happy to offer you free e-file options for your federal taxes if you qualify for our Free Federal Basic Software. If you live in a state that requires you to also file a state income tax return, our website can also assist with this. While we do charge a small fee for state filings, $21 (with current "SAVE25" promotion, reg $28), this is up to 50% less than what other software providers charge, and is the same flat fee no matter what your tax filing situation.

For those filing more complicated returns, we work very hard to keep our prices reasonable and offer an affordable solution. Part of the way we keep our costs down, is by not spending your hard earned money on countless TV commercials. Regardless of the complexity of your return, our software will help guide you through the entire filing process.

Some software providers charge a fee for the convenience of sending a return electronically. We do not charge an additional fee to electronically transmit a tax return. When a customer purchases our tax filing software, the fee that they pay is for the calculation and preparation of their tax return not the transmission. Once you pay, you are free to electronically file taxes or print and mail the return.

Q&A: Is it free to e-file?

E-file.com does not charge a fee to "e-file" or electronically file a tax return. We only charge for the software to prepare a tax return, there are no additional fees or costs associated with filing. We also offer free federal filing for taxpayers that qualify to file using our Basic Software. Many taxpayers who do not have dependents are eligible to use this as long as their taxable income is under $100,000 and they don't plan on itemizing deductions. We also provide software for taxpayers who have more complicated returns or wish to file a state tax return. While we do charge for these, we do our best to keep our prices as low as possible.
